We enriched our cardio line of products with another β-blocker. It is a highly selective blocker of β – adrenergic receptors under the name of  LYBROL.

Jadran Galenski laboratorij dd (JGL) participated for the second time as an exibitor at the International Medical Industry Fair and Conference CPhI Worldwide 2009, in Madrid, Spain from October 13th-15th.

CPhI Worldwide is the most comprehensive exhibition of manufacturers of active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates, excipients and natural extracts in the world. 2009 marked the 20th edition of this industry leading event, hosting over 1,500 exhibitors and 25,000 visitors.

At CPhI, JGL presented four key components of its business: contract manufacturing, product development, product licencing and product marketing. The company attracted significant attention, opening the possibility of entering new global markets.

Sterile solution products, manufactured in JGL’s recently expanded facilities by the highest international standards of quality, showed considerable potential for export. These include JGL’s main global OTC brand Aqua Maris, as well as the generic ophthalmic products for which the company is starting to be recognized as a main regional manufacturer.

HOLYPLANT ivy leaf syrup – helping against dry and productive cough

Coughing has various causes, which can sometimes be very serious, but mostly it is caused by the common cold. In such case, the simplest thing to do is visit the nearest pharmacy where you will be offered syrup to help cough up, or stop the irritating, exhausting dry cough. We enriched our cardio line of products with a selective β-blocker ATENOLOL JADRAN.

Due to its long-lasting use in clinical practice for the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias and myocardial infarction, atenolol has become the synonym for the whole group of  β-blockers.

At a ceremony organised by the Croatian Trade and Investments Promotion Agency, which took place on the 27^th of November in the Hotel Westin in Zagreb, our company was awarded the title of investor of the year!

We were recommended for this award by the Croatian Chamber of Economy – Regional Chamber of Rijeka, on the basis of considerable investments in production, which amounted to almost 80 million kunas.

This applies to investments in the cleanroom system, sterile solutions packaging line, automatic syrup and solutions filling and packing line, and the new department for the production and packaging of solid oral forms (tablets and capsules) and semi-solid forms (ointments and creams).

The result of this approach is the European GMP certificate that enables JGL to interlink with the integrated market which now includes 27 EU states.

17.09.2008. - at the meeting of the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development  in Hartmann Croatia, Koprivnica, Jadran – Galenic Laboratory presented the first Sustainable Development Report. It covers a two-year period (2006/2007) and applies to several locations: the Pulac and Svilno production facilities, as well as JGL branch offices in Croatia and abroad.

Gentamicin  is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic  that acts bactericidally on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

RANIX

JGL, among the first pharmaceutical companies in Europe, received certificate ISO 22000:2005 that covers food supplement's safety management system. ISO 22000:2005 integrates quality management system requirements defined by ISO 9001:2000 with HACCP principles (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) that are used to identify, prevent and control food safety hazards.

A multidisciplinary team of company's experts was involved in integration of ISO 22000:2005 requirements with already existing quality managements system. Furthermore, more than a half of all employees participated in training courses related to ISO 22000:2005, HACCP, risk management and some other topics. The final certification was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.

Implementation of food safety managementy system principles in accordance with ISO 22000:2005 will assure that all food supplement products are developed, manufactured and tested appropriately, which results with products of high and constant quality that are safe for use.

According to independent research by Adria Zeitung magazine, tourists from Germany, Switzerland and Austria who spent their 2006 holidays in Croatia declared the Aqua Maris brand to be one of the best quality products on the Croatian market!

This research was carried out by a questionnaire placed inside the magazine, inviting readers to spontaneously name products they considered to be 100% Croatian and of a particularly good quality.

The official media launch of Lactogyn, a new probiotic concept in the world, took place at the Škola club in Zagreb. Fluconazole is a new, synthetic, triazole active substance used for the treatment of superficial and systemic fungal infections.

Mechanism of action is the inhibition of the synthesis of ergosterol, which changes the cell wall of the fungus and prevents its growth and reproduction.

All azoles enter into the interaction with enzymes of cytochrome P 450 system.

The affinity of triazoles (fluconazole) is greater towards fungal P 450 system than towards the human one, so toxicity and interactions of triazoles are more seldom than toxicity and interactions of imidazoles (ketoconazole, miconazole).

It has a fungistatic action against numerous pathogenic bacteria.

FLUCONAX is on the Reimbursement List of the Croatian Institute of Health Insurance.

In collaboration with companies Chr. Hansen and Urex Biotech JGL will launch on the market preparation Lactogyn intended for the restoration and maintenance of the vaginal microflora. Lactogyn capsules contain a unique combination of two probiotic species for which it has been scientifically proved  for the first time in the world that they may settle in the vaginal tract after oral administration and thus have a beneficial effect on woman's urogenital health. Preparation Lactogyn will be available in Croatian  pharmacies in October this year.   

                  Vaginal microflora is a natural protective mechanism against the settlement of harmful bacteria and fungi. It has been proved that in women with imbalance of vaginal microflora there is an increased risk for the development of urogenital infections. Unpleasant symptoms of these inflammations can be pricking, itching in the intimate region and vaginal secretion. Women exposed to antibiotic treatment, stress, spermicides, as well as those who often change partners are particularly at risk. Amicor is a well-known antihypertensive lisinopril which is the most frequently prescribed ACE inhibitor in Croatia. Amicor is used in the treatment of arterial hypertension, heart insufficiency, acute myocardial infarction and diabetic nephropathy.

In cases in which monotherapy is not sufficient to reach target values of blood pressure lisinopril is available in combination with hydrochlorothiazide under brand name Amicor H.

Simvax

Simvastatin is together with atorvastatin the most frequently prescribed statin and probably the most well-known one so that it is a synonym for statins.

Researches showed that simvastatin reduces total mortality in patients with coronary heart disease, risk of fatal and non-fatal cerebrovascular events (stroke and transient ischemic attack). Simvastatin slows down the development of atherosclerosis.
Simvax is used for the primary prevention of atherosclerosis by reducing total and LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides and by increasing HDL cholesterol in patients with hyperlipoproteinemias of type IIa, IIb and III, IV. It is also used for the secondary prevention of myocardial infarction in patients with already developed atherosclerosis and angina pectoris and for the prevention of a new heart attack or/and stroke.

Zalasta (olanzapine)

Olanzapine is a newer antipsychotic. It belongs to the group of oxazepines and it differs chemically from other antipsychotics: promazine and flufenazine as well as from haloperidol. Due to its extraordinary effectiveness it is becoming the most important antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia. Olanzapine acts antagonistically on serotonin, dopamine and cholinergic receptors, but selectively! It therefore alleviates the symptoms of schizophrenia without provoking the symptoms of Parkinson's disease (unlike most other antipsychotics).
