1,000 ragweed habitats photographed using the “Allergic” app

The public health action called “Allergic to Allergies”, initiated by the Croatian Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology in cooperation with JGL, has shown that the inhabitants of many parts of Croatia are indeed allergic to allergies

More than a thousand habitats of ragweed, the most aggressive pollen allergen, have been reported since mid June with the help of the mobile app “Allergic”, and new reports continue coming each day. All photographed ragweed habitats can be seen on the website www.alergicni.com.

The seriousness of this public health problem is best evidenced by the fact that every tenth person in Croatia suffers from ragweed allergy. The exposure is the greatest among the inhabitants of Continental Croatia, particularly from the regions of Slavonia and Baranja, which is visible from the map itself, as most locations were photographed in this area. However, ragweed allergy is becoming increasingly common in the regions of Croatian Littoral and Dalmatia as well. Ragweed spreads fast and is suppressed by plucking before it blooms. Because of this, the Croatian Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology and JGL have developed a mobile application in order to help with ragweed suppression by mapping its habitats.

With the help of the “Allergic” app, people can use their smartphones to take a picture of a ragweed habitat, which is then entered into a map of the Republic of Croatia via GPS. All photographed ragweed habitats can be seen on the website www.alergicni.com/map/. The interactive map contains exact addresses of ragweed locations and photographs of these locations.

The users of Android and iOS smartphone platforms can still download and install the application for free on their devices. The app is very simple to use. The user only has to take a picture of a ragweed covered area, and the app will enter the picture with the exact geolocation in the map.

Every user of the “Allergic” app who reports ten locations will receive a JGL package with Aqua Maris 4Allergy, Vizol S Allergy and Pantexol Repair products.
