JGL supports the best medical students

Today’s first dive in Kraljevica marked the beginning of a scuba diving course for medical students from all over the world, taking place as part of the Diving Medicine Summer School.

This is a continuation of the summer school organised by the Croatian Medical Students’ International Committee (CroMSIC). This year, it brought together outstanding medical students from Sweden, the Netherlands, Israel, Romania, Italy, Portugal, Germany, the United States and Denmark. New in the programme is the scuba diver rescue training, which could help future doctors to save lives on such occasions.

JGL has once again decided to support the best medical students from Croatia and abroad. It has been fostering their dissemination of knowledge with their international colleagues for several years now.

– For a number of years, JGL has been helping student organisations and knowledge exchange programmes. We are happy to support those who are driven by a special enthusiasm and the wish to excel, to surround themselves with like-minded people and to step into the world with their accomplishments and knowledge. This is all part of the Diving Medicine Summer School. Those students remind us of ourselves: just as JGL exports products intended to preserve health, they export knowledge about treatment to their colleagues from around the world – said Alenka Jajac Knez, Market Operations Director at JGL.

The Diving Medicine Summer School will teach students how to scuba dive and leading Croatian experts will teach them about the underwater and hyperbaric medicine, increasingly used in treatment. This branch of medicine not only treats conditions occurring at great depths but is also increasingly important around the world in the treatment of burns, frostbite, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, ulcerative colitis…

– We are pleased that we have been able to organise our Diving Medicine Summer School in this very specific global situation, amidst the coronavirus pandemic. It is very popular among the best medical students from around the world – many of them want to participate, and we choose the best among them. By doing so, we promote our country as one that has a lot to show, but also a lot to teach as well– said Laura Radoš, project manager in the Croatian Medical Students’ International Committee.
