We have been cooperating with the Department of Biotechnology at the University of Rijeka for many years now. One of their subjects requires all students of the 3rd year of undergraduate studies to complete a two-week professional traineeship at JGL, usually in the period from May to July.
The traineeship covers the departments of production, quality control, research and development, quality assurance, and registration. Each year, 45 students complete the traineeship programme, which is planned in detail and ends with a test and evaluation by all of JGL’s appointed mentors.
This cooperation programme has been recognised by the European academic community and listed in the EU project of stimulating student employment through structured professional and practical work. This way of operating allows us to get to know our future experts better and select and recruit high-quality staff after they finish their studies.
After many years of partnering in various scientific, teaching and development activities, in 2020, the Senate of the University of Rijeka granted JGL the status of the Department of Biotechnology. Through this new form of collaboration, the two will actively promote the values of interconnecting science and business, innovation and transferring technologies and knowledge using a smart specialisation scheme, intended for both biotechnology students and JGL’s employees.
