A woman can feel problems like itching, burning sensations and frequently an odour of vaginal discharge. The altered properties of the discharge, itching or redness in the genital region may indicate an inflammation of the vagina. The most common causes are bacterial and fungal infections (bacterial vaginosis and vaginal candidiasis) and trichomoniasis. It is extremely important to treat these infections because of possible complications such as sterility, inflammation of pelvic organs, premature birth, etc.
What is important is that such infections recur frequently. However, these infections may not have noticeable symptoms and may become apparent only during a gynaecological examination. When warning symptoms are absent, it is even more dangerous, because if these infections go untreated they can cause the same complications as infections with symptoms.
The HPV infection is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections; more than 50% of women (and men) are infected by it at some point in their lives. There are many types of HPV, some with low and others with high risk. With the presence of high-risk HPV, the risk for developing cervical cancer is increased – and every woman must be aware of this. Responsible sexual behaviour, proper lifestyle and hygienic habits are the basis for preserving the intimate health of women, while probiotics that contain specific strains of lactobacilli are an indispensable help in these efforts.
